da bet nacional: The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas has shared one criticism of David Moyes following the Hammers’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.
da fezbet: The Irons weren’t necessarily awful against Mikel Arteta’s men, having more shots and also winning more corners than their London rivals at the Emirates.
However, a goal from Alexandre Lacazette – awarded after VAR’s intervention – meant West Ham left north London with nothing.
The east Londoners now sit 16th in the Premier League on 27 points, and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
As aforesaid, while the performance wasn’t terrible from the Hammers, Thomas has one criticism of Moyes.
What did he say?
In response to a fan in his post-match Q&A session, Thomas wrote: “Moyes made his first change in the 81st minute. He should have brought on a player in the 60th or 70th min if we’re pushing it. Issa Diop and Jeremy Ngakia had solid performances. Such a shame because we deserved points from this game. A draw at the very least.”
Far too reactionary from Moyes
As Thomas states, the former Manchester United manager only made his first substitution in the 81st minute.
That was just moments after Lacazette’s strike in the 78th minute, which proves that the Scot was far too reactionary with his use of the bench.
With his side looking a good bet to pick up a result after an hour of the game – Michail Antonio in particular should’ve buried at least two chances on Saturday – Moyes really needed to be proactive and give his players a fresh boost to go on and win the game.
He definitely had that in his locker, with players such as Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini, Robert Snodgrass and Tomas Soucek on the bench.
However, all three of his switches came in the final ten minutes, leaving it far too late for any of them to make an impact.
