da jogodeouro: Tyrone Mings has not been his reliable self in recent weeks, which should be of concern at this stage of the season.
On the chalkboard
da imperador bet: Aston Villa are hitting an extremely important spell of the season – they have their Carabao Cup final to contend, while they are also aiming to stay in the Premier League, currently sitting one point above the relegation zone.
With that in mind, Dean Smith is relying on his key players to carry the team on to safety with some big performances.
Jack Grealish will be heading up that group, but Mings will also be seen as someone who is integral to their survival hopes, having made 21 league starts this campaign, and currently acting as the central figure of their three-man defence.
However, he has not shown his greatest form in Villa’s last three games, even if the team took two wins from them.

An off spell
This spell started against Watford when he was lucky not to be sent off for handling the ball after Gerard Deulofeu tried to knock it past him and run into the space behind the defence.
In addition to that, he failed to make any tackles or interceptions during the game, while going on to commit a foul.
Then there is the Leicester match in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg where he made an error that led to a shot and won just two of his five duels while completing 61% of his attempted passes.
Did he really play for us?! No Villa fan has managed to name all of these obscure Villans….
There was more defensive solidity from him in this outing though, making four clearances, blocking two shots and winning two interceptions.
The most recent of these games is against Bournemouth, where even Dean Smith questioned him. He asked if the occasion got the better of Mings, as quoted by The Birmingham Mail: “I just thought we weren’t good enough on the ball, Tyrone was one of them as well.”
He was also underwhelming defensively, having once again failed to make any tackles or interceptions while making two fouls.
Villa will be hoping that he is able to rediscover the form that merited an England callup, ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur match.
Meanwhile, present and former Villa players have reacted to one of their star’s hilarious Instagram post.
