He was named the fans’ Player of the Year as well as the players’ Player of the Year and has been a hit since he was brought to the Premier League from former club Anzhi Makhachkala back in 2013.
And reports claim that Mourinho is considering a £60m move for the Brazilian, which would, albeit narrowly, break the Red Devils’ record spend on one player – they paid £59.7m for Angel di Maria in 2014.
It’s thought that the 27-year-old would be open to a move, which is speculation fuelled by his recent comments:
“Jose is one of the most successful coaches in the world and Manchester United will be stronger with him as manager,” he said.
“I played some of my best football under Mourinho. He is a special coach and I have a great relationship with him.
“Winning the Premier League with him was one of the highlights of my career. I was sad things didn’t work out after that.”
Aside from Willian, the Portuguese boss is also keeping an eye on Nemanja Matic, who was a key figure in his midfield during his title winning season.
Mourinho is expected to be officially announced at United this Friday and will likely be backed in the transfer market.
Willian featured 49 times in all competitions for his side last term, so far managing to score 11 goals while providing another 10 assists.
