da 888: Tottenham are having a bit of a stop-start season so far.
da roleta: The Lilywhites got their season underway with a decent point at Goodison Park against Everton before beating Crystal Palace 1-0. The following game saw them draw at home to Liverpool 1-1 and after those three games it was probably just under Spurs would have wanted to be.
They came into this season wanting to prove they are title contenders once again so really needed to have beaten Liverpool to send out that message but things didn’t seem to click until they went to Stoke after the international break.
Stoke are struggling at the moment of course but a 4-0 win at their ground is still no mean feat and it was a result that suggested Spurs were ready to kick on as the Champions League group stages loomed. That’s where things went wrong though as Monaco triumphed 2-1 leaving Spurs’ start to the season okay but perhaps could have been slightly better.
We’ve teamed up with 7 Of The Best to bring you a footballing treat for the season. It’s free to play and the best individual score each week wins £500, the highest scoring team wins £1,500 a week and there is a prize of £2,000 for the best individual over the course of a month. Want to win bigger? Nab yourself a whopping £500k if you get all seven of your selections correct for seven consecutive weeks.
There’s no need for panic stations just yet then, but the club will be hoping performances become more consistent over the coming weeks and, while keeping in with the theme of seven, we think this SEVEN need to step up to ensure that…
Vincent Janssen
It might be early days in Janssen’s career but he needs to start scoring soon or the whole idea of him challenging Harry Kane and giving Spurs added attacking prowess will fall flat. He was the Eredivisie’s top scorer and whilst that isn’t the Premier League you’d still expect him to be looking threatening. Harry Kane seems pretty comfortable up front at the moment and that won’t suit Mauricio Pochettino.

Dele Alli
Alli scored against Stoke but has also found himself in the holding role a bit more this year too and that doesn’t seem to suit him. If that’s where his manager sees his future then their may be trouble but really Alli should be in the attacking midfield role. He hasn’t quite hit the heights of last season so far and whether he can or not could be his biggest test of his career to date.
[ad_pod id=’7OTB’ align=’center’]
Christian Eriksen
Eriksen doesn’t seem to be having the impact on games that he did last season. In 2015/16 the former Ajax midfielder was a real menace for opposition defences to try and deal with. He floated into space from the left side and set up as well as scored goals but hasn’t really done so this year. It could just be a blip but if it lasts much longer his place in the side could be under threat.

Erik Lamela
Lamela has admittedly improved since he first joined the club and now looks confident enough to play in the Premier League but for Spurs to challenge for the title they’re going to need more from in. Like Eriksen he cuts inside onto his favoured foot but doesn’t have the delivery of him and that’s something to improve on. The Argentine still needs to add more goals to his game too.

Harry Kane
The England international seems to have a slow start to every season and finally got off of the mark against Stoke. He may still go on to win the Golden Boot as he did last year but Tottenham need him to start scoring regularly now particularly with doubts still over Janssen. The game against Sunderland on Sunday could be the perfect opportunity for him to do so.
[ad_pod id=’7OTB’ align=’center’]
Son Heung-Min
Son signed for Spurs last year with an exciting reputation but he’s only showed flashes of why he had that up to now. He scored two goals against Stoke and it looked like he was going to force his way back into the reckoning but after a poor performance against Monaco that’s up for debate. When on form he’s a good player but he doesn’t seem to hit form enough for Spurs.
[ad_pod id=’7OTB’ align=’center’]
Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen is a good defender but when you play alongside Toby Alderweireld you’re naturally going to look slightly worse. The Belgian needs to prove that he can be as good as his compatriot to help Tottenham challenge for the title and that must be the gauntlet thrown down to him by Pochettino. It’s not really that he’s done much wrong so far this season more that he needs to match his defensive partner for Spurs to reach that next level.
